Comox Valley Jiu-Jitsu Summer Camps

This year we are excited to be  running 3 camps for 2 age groups! We are running 2 Bullyproof kids camps for ages 8-13 from 9-noon on July 7-11th and July 14-18th. We are running 1 Jr Bullyproof kids camp for ages 6-11 on August 5 – 8th from 9 to noon. These camps are open to all levels of experience and are a ton of fun! The kids will learn the fundamentals of Gracie Jiu Jitsu as well as how to handle bullys and stand up for themselves with  verbal deescalation and confidence building games

WHY YOUR KID
SHOULD DO JIU-JITSU

Improved physical fitness

  • Jiu Jitsu is a physically demanding sport that requires strength, endurance, and flexibility. Through training, kids will develop their cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, and overall coordination.

Self-defense skills

  • Jiu Jitsu is an effective self-defense system that teaches kids how to defend themselves in real-world situations. Our program emphasizes practical techniques that kids can use to protect themselves in a variety of scenarios.

Discipline and focus

  • Jiu Jitsu is both an individual and team sport. Kids will learn how to work with others to achieve a common goal, as well as how to win and lose gracefully.

  • Jiu Jitsu is a great way for kids to blow off steam and relieve stress. The physical activity and mental focus required in training can help kids reduce their stress levels and improve their overall mental health.

Respect and humility

  • Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that emphasizes respect for oneself, one’s training partners, and one’s opponents. Kids will learn the value of humility and respect, which will carry over to all areas of their lives.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu® is a martial art that focuses on grappling and ground fighting techniques. We have  3 camps this year  . Adam Morden

Owner/Coach

Adam has been coaching martial arts and fitness since 1999, with over 25 years of hands-on experience in Boxing, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Mixed Martial Arts. He is known for his deep technical knowledge, approachable demeanour, and passion for helping people unlock their potential.

As both owner and head coach, Adam leads programs for adults, kids, and teens. He has a natural talent for connecting with younger students, creating a fun, structured environment where they can build confidence, discipline, and resilience—on and off the mats. Adam is especially gifted at making newcomers feel at ease, no matter their age or background. His friendly, inclusive coaching style helps students—both men and women—feel welcomed, supported, and empowered from their very first class.

His favorite part of coaching is watching people accomplish things they never thought possible, and then witnessing how that mindset shift impacts every area of their lives. Whether you’re just starting your journey or looking to level up your skills, Adam brings the experience, positivity, and leadership to help you succeed.

Jochem Juurlink

Coach

Coach Jochem has been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2011, He received his black belt in 2024 from Professor Don Whitefield.  Jochem is an outstanding coach who wants to spread his love of Jiu Jitsu.

Kevin Nowottnick

Muay Thai Coach
Kevin Nowottnick has practiced martial arts for 42+ years and has been teaching martial arts for over 37 years. He holds a degree in Kinesiology and has a career as a Kinesiologist, Strength and Conditioning Coach and Personal Trainer spanning more than 32 years. He is a second-generation Jeet Kune Do Concepts/FMA instructor, a Black Belt in ITF Tae Kwon do, a certified Boxing Coach with Boxing BC/Coaching Association of Canada, and a certified Kickboxing Coach with WAKO. He is a specialist in strength and conditioning for combat sport athletes and martial arts practitioners. His career has given him many opportunities to coach athletes training on Provincial and National Teams; competing at Pan Am, Commonwealth, World and Olympic games; as well as coach MMA athletes from amateur events to the professional stage of the UFC, providing coaching in striking and strength and conditioning. 
His striking coaching combines the best of systems and styles (Muay Thai, Dutch Kickboxing, Boxing, FMA and Jeet Kune Do Concepts), along with the methods and principles of current exercise science and strength and conditioning. 
His passion is in coaching, mentoring and helping martial artists and aspiring combat sport athletes, develop the skills and habits to succeed on the mat, in the ring, the cage and in life. Helping each one find the champion within.
